Lead the Finance function for a cluster of countries in Baltics branch office setup (Latvia is a CPO / trading legal entity and Lithuania, Estonia are branch offices of Latvia) and Ukraine (export market of NPhS). Manage and supervise all finance issues and drive business-related analysis and decision making of Innovative Medicines in Baltics.

As a member of the Innovative Medicines Leadership Team, contribute to setting overall company policy and direction and act as deputy of Country President when necessary. Also, member of the local Novartis SIA Baltics management board with legal and statutory responsibility and accountability.

Ensure strong “tone from the top” on Quality and Compliance and foster a “speak up” culture.

About the Role

Major accountabilities:

  • Execute regional / global strategies and develop strategic long-term financial and business plans across 4 countries.
  • Deliver robust forecasts and manage the budgeting process. Proactively drive and support decisions to support short-term and long-term growth, and drive resource allocations. Prepare various high level management reports on a monthly, quarterly and/or annual basis.
  • Monitor business performance against set objectives and take corrective measures, as required to manage performance.
  • Engage proactively in external and commercial activities with the objective of driving growth, productivity and efficiency for the business.
  • Ensure financial reporting is timely and accurate and in compliance with IFRS / local statutory accounts
  • Lead the implementation of risk management processes, financial compliance and controls (Business Process Controls, Internal and External Audits) and manage the correct and timely implementation of financial, purchasing and control processes and policies and ensure adherence thereof.
  • Manage and integrate services delivered to the organization (define processes, agree and track Service Level Agreements [SLAs]).
  • Conduct market studies and financial analyses and set stretch objectives based on external / competitor benchmark.
  • Manage and develop team of experienced Finance professionals and build global talent pipeline.
  • Comply with the GxP quality requirements applicable to his/her area of responsibility, incl. but not limited to proper reporting of adverse events and customer complaints, samples handling as well as any incident that may adversely affect the quality, safety, identity, strength, purity, availability or efficacy of a commercial product or clinical trial material and/or may compromise the Novartis Quality System and the global Novartis reputation.

Key performance indicators:

  • Target achievement of Sales / Sales growth, TFC and MR
  • Accuracy and timeliness of financial data
  • Accuracy of budget and estimates as compared to actual
  • Quality of data supplied to management (local, cluster, regional, HQ) for decision making
  • Compliance of financial processes with NFCM requirement and meeting statutory and internal reprinting deadlines

Education / Work Experience:

  • Minimum degree acceptable: University degree in Finance or Economics
  • Desirable degrees:  MBA
  • Languages: Fluent English – written and spoken, other languages beneficial
  • Required positions: Extensive experience (10+ years) at major international company in financial administration roles (both BPA and FRA), with record of increasing responsibility in business scope and people management. Experience of effective communication and execution in a complex matrix organization
  • Ideal experience: Finance management position in pharmaceutical industry with broad functional breadth, geographic scope, above/in country experience, project management & people leadership
  • Other: Mobility is strongly recommended
